
Dr. John K. Botson is the Owner and Chief Medical Officer of Rheumatology Associates of Maui. He earned his undergraduate degree from Ohio Northern University, where he completed a double major in Pharmacy and Chemistry. He then obtained his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
Following medical school, Dr. Botson completed his residency training at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and, in 2009, completed his Rheumatology Fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Dr. Botson also serves as President of the Alaska Rheumatology Alliance and practices as a Rheumatologist with Orthopedic Physicians Alaska. He brings extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of complex rheumatologic conditions, with particular clinical interests in gout, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis management, and musculoskeletal ultrasound.
In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Botson actively participates in clinical research focused on gout and osteoporosis and contributes to advancing the field through scientific manuscripts and published case studies.
Dr. Botson values bringing his expertise, research experience, and patient-centered approach to the Maui community.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys writing scientific publications, spending time with family, and maintaining an active lifestyle.

Dr. Jeff Peterson is an Independent Contractor and Medical Director for Rheumatology Associates of Maui. He has practiced rheumatology for more than 20 years in the greater Seattle area and brings extensive clinical, academic, and advocacy experience to caring for patients in Hawaii.
Dr. Peterson completed his rheumatology fellowship training at the University of Washington, where he also serves as a Clinical Professor of Medicine, teaching medical students, residents, and fellows in the specialty of rheumatology.
He has served as the long-standing President of the Washington Rheumatology Alliance, the state rheumatology medical society, where he has advocated extensively for patient access to appropriate therapies and worked with insurers, pharmacy benefit managers, and government agencies to improve access to care. Dr. Peterson was also instrumental in helping establish the Hawaii Rheumatology Society.
While utilizing the latest advances in rheumatologic care, Dr. Peterson embraces a comprehensive and patient-centered approach to treatment. He encourages patients to actively participate in their health through lifestyle modifications, nutrition, and, when appropriate, complementary approaches alongside evidence-based medical therapies.
Dr. Peterson is also an accomplished researcher and has authored numerous publications in the field of rheumatology, with recent work focusing on gout and advancements in patient care.
He values being part of the Maui community and is honored to provide care to the people of Maui. Outside of medicine, Dr. Peterson enjoys spending time in nature and pursuing his interests in flower and bird photography.

Dr. Carlin brings more than 43 years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic and autoimmune diseases.
He earned his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He then went on to complete a fellowship in Rheumatology at the University of Washington.
Prior to his retirement from full-time practice in 2022, Dr. Carlin served for many years as Chief of Rheumatology at Virginia Mason Medical Center, where he was recognized for his leadership, dedication to patient care, and commitment to advancing the field of rheumatology.
Dr. Carlin continues to contribute to the specialty as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington, where he teaches and mentors physicians on the Rheumatology Service. He is also an Affiliate Clinical Investigator at the Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, where he participates in research focused on the biology and treatment of autoimmune diseases.
With decades of clinical experience, academic leadership, and ongoing involvement in rheumatology research, Dr. Carlin is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to patients throughout Hawaii.

Dr. Kenney is a board-certified rheumatologist with decades of experience caring for patients with autoimmune and musculoskeletal diseases.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine and completed both his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship training in Rheumatology at the UCLA Medical Center. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.
Following his fellowship training, Dr. Kenney relocated to Spokane, Washington, where he was one of the founding physicians of Arthritis Northwest. Under the leadership of its founding physicians, Arthritis Northwest grew into one of the largest and most progressive rheumatology practices in the Pacific Northwest and has received national recognition for its commitment to innovative, high-quality rheumatologic care.
Dr. Kenney is dedicated to delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care and brings extensive clinical expertise to the diagnosis and management of a broad range of rheumatic and autoimmune conditions.

Dr. Jones is a board-certified rheumatologist dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care for patients with rheumatic and autoimmune diseases.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine before relocating to New Hampshire, where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship training in Rheumatology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Following his fellowship, he remained on faculty for several years, combining the care of rheumatology patients with both clinical and laboratory research.
Dr. Jones later moved to Corvallis, Oregon, where he continues to care for patients, participate in rheumatology research, and teach the next generation of physicians through resident education.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Jones enjoys spending time with his wife and five children. As a family, they enjoy traveling, hiking, and playing games together. In his free time, he also enjoys running, reading, and playing pickleball.
Dr. Jones brings a unique combination of clinical expertise, academic involvement, and a genuine passion for patient care to Rheumatology Associates of Maui.
