Important Update for HMSA Patients
HMSA recently sent a letter stating that Rheumatology Associates of Maui “chose” not to accept HMSA patients as an out-of-network provider beginning January 1, 2027. This does not reflect what we communicated to HMSA or our intention to continue caring for you.
In our correspondence with HMSA, we explicitly stated that we intended to continue seeing patients out of network and help them understand their benefits. Ending our participating provider agreement does not mean we chose to stop seeing HMSA patients.
We have contacted HMSA for clarification and are awaiting answers. We wish to continue caring for HMSA patients after January 1, 2027, and we are as surprised by this letter as you are.
Our willingness to continue providing care does not guarantee insurance coverage. HMSA’s coverage decisions and each patient’s plan benefits will determine whether out-of-network services are covered and what costs patients may face. These decisions may affect your ability to continue receiving care at our practice.
We are also awaiting out-of-network reimbursement information from HMSA to help us prepare estimates of patient costs. Until we receive clarification, we cannot confirm coverage or provide reliable estimates.
We understand the confusion and concern this has caused. Please know that our intention remains to continue caring for you. Thank you for your patience as we seek clear answers. We will update this page as more information becomes available.
